Your Catholic Italy Tour Itinerary

Read the itinerary below to learn more about each destination and get an in-depth look into this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a Catholic tour of Italy.

Day 1 - Departure

Our Pilgrimage begins today as we depart on our flights to Rome. Meals and drinks served aloft.

Day 2 - Arrive Rome

You will arrive at Rome Airport (FCO) where you will be welcomed by a Glimmer Tours representative who will be awaiting your arrival. You will be escorted from the airport and driven to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Overnight in Rome.

Day 3 - Rome

Our pilgrimage in Rome begins with a walking tour to view the exteriors of some of the city's most iconic sites. We start at the Colosseum, the largest ancient amphitheater in the world. We'll admire its majestic exterior before moving on to the Roman Forum, where we'll view the ruins of significant government buildings that once formed the administrative heart of ancient Rome. Our visit to the historic area concludes at Capitoline Hill, where we'll enjoy breathtaking views across the city.

After lunch, we will visit the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. This sacred site, home to the tomb of St. Paul the Apostle, offers a solemn space to honor his significant contributions to Christianity and reflect on his life.

Our journey leads us to the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Pope’s cathedral, which symbolizes the unity of the Church. Here, we admire the Scala Sancta, the very steps that Jesus climbed during His Passion in Jerusalem.

Our final visit is to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, one of the oldest churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary and home to relics from the manger where Jesus was laid in Bethlehem. Upon availability, we will celebrate Mass here, deepening our spiritual journey in this sacred space.

The day ends with a return to our hotel for dinner and a restful night's sleep.

Day 4 - Rome

Our pilgrimage continues with an early morning visit to Vatican City for a Papal audience, a spiritually enriching experience where we gather to receive blessings from the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Following the audience, there will be an opportunity to explore St. Peter's Basilica. This architectural marvel is not only a significant religious site but also the place where St. Peter the Apostle was martyred. It offers a moment to pray and reflect at the tomb of St. John Paul II among others.

After lunch, we will spend free time in St. Peter's Square, allowing for personal reflection and exploration.

As the day concludes, we return to our hotel for dinner and a restful night's sleep.

Day 5 - Rome - San Giovanni Rotondo

We begin our day with a visit to the Vatican Museums, where we explore the priceless paintings, tapestries and sculptures dedicated to our Lord. Within the Vatican Museums is the Sistine Chapel, this magnificent chapel features an ornate ceiling and a breathtaking altarpiece painted by Michelangelo.

After lunch, we will make our way to San Giovanni Rotondo, home to the beloved Padre Pio. As we arrive, the peaceful setting of this sacred place welcomes us, readying our hearts for the spiritual moments to come.

We will conclude the day with a transfer to the hotel for dinner and a restful night's sleep.

Day 6 - San Giovanni Rotondo

We begin our day with Mass at the Convento Santa Maria delle Grazie, where we venerate Saint Padre Pio at his tomb. Following our morning devotion, we visit the Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church, a modern shrine that celebrates the enduring power of faith through prayer.

After lunch, we journey to the Grotto of St. Michael the Archangel, a revered pilgrimage site. This is the cave where St. Michael the Archangel appeared, making it a significant place for prayer and reflection.

We will conclude the day with a transfer to our hotel for dinner and a restful night's sleep.

Day 7- San Giovanni Rotondo - Loreto - Assisi

This morning, we depart for Loreto, where we will first gather for lunch. Afterward, we will explore the Marian Shrine, which houses the Holy House of Nazareth, revered as the home where the Virgin Mary received the Annunciation and lived with Jesus and Joseph. Tradition holds that angels transported this sacred home to Loreto, highlighting its deep sanctity.

We then travel to Assisi, the serene hometown of St. Francis and St. Clare. Our day concludes with dinner at our hotel, followed by a night of rest, as we reflect on the profound experiences we've shared.

Day 8 - Assisi

Our day begins with a visit to the Basilica of St. Clare, dedicated to and housing the remains of St. Clare, who followed St. Francis closely and founded the Poor Clare Sisters.

Next, we visit the Santuario Della Spogliazione, where we pay respects at the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first millennial to be declared Blessed.

A short walk leads us to the Basilica of St. Francis, the final resting place of St. Francis and a treasure trove of art depicting his life of simplicity and faith. We will participate in Mass at this revered site, drawing closer to the teachings of St. Francis.

After lunch, our pilgrimage continues to the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels. Inside the Porziuncola, we visit the Cappella del Transito, the revered site of St. Francis’s passing.

The day concludes with a return to our hotel for dinner and time to rest and prepare for the following day’s journey.

Overnight in Assisi.

Day 9 - Assisi - Rome

Our pilgrimage continues as we depart from Assisi and head towards Rome. Upon arrival in Rome, we enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, we'll embark on a walking tour starting at the vibrant Piazza Navona. From there, we'll proceed to the Pantheon, renowned for its ancient grandeur, then make a wish at the Trevi Fountain. Our final destination will be the Spanish Steps, one of Rome's most iconic meeting places.

The day’s journey concludes with a delightful dinner and a restful night's sleep.

Overnight in Rome.

Day 10 - Return Home

Today a Glimmer Tours representative will drive you to Rome (FCO) airport so you can catch your flight home safely with unforgettable memories.
